QR Code Ordering System UK

Your menu on every table,
one scan away

Customers scan the QR code on their table, browse your full menu, customise their order and pay on their phone — and the order lands in your kitchen with the table number attached. No app download. No queuing at the bar. No waiting to catch a waiter's eye.

Free to set up. No monthly fee. 2% per transaction when you trade.

📵

No app. Just scan.

The biggest barrier to QR ordering is getting customers to download something. With TakingYourOrder, there is nothing to download. Your customer points their camera at the code, the menu opens, they order. It works on every smartphone, every browser, every network.

What QR ordering actually costs — and what others charge

Most QR ordering systems are priced as if every venue is a packed city-centre restaurant with predictable turnover all year round. Real hospitality is different — a seaside café flies in August and idles in January; a village pub lives on weekend services.

Here's the honest maths. On 100 orders at a £15 average — a decent Saturday service — our 2% platform fee comes to £30 for the day. A typical SaaS QR ordering tool charges £79/month. Every month. However quiet you are.

Real example

Busy Saturday service

Orders100 × £15
Gross takings£1,500
TakingYourOrder fee (2%)£30
You keep£1,470

Quiet January week

Orders0
TakingYourOrder fee£0
Typical SaaS QR tool£79
Your saving£79

And when your venue is busy enough that 2% adds up, switch to a flat monthly plan and the per-transaction fee disappears entirely. You're never locked into the wrong pricing model for your season.

Where to display your QR codes

🪑

On every table

A laminated table card or sticker on every table. Customers order the moment they sit down — and order the next round without moving.

🍺

In the beer garden

Benches, parasol poles, fence posts. Outside drinkers order from their seat instead of trekking to the bar — and spend more because it's easy.

🖨️

On printed menus

Your TakingYourOrder print menus have a QR code on every individual item — customers scan what they want and it drops straight into their basket.

🪟

In the window

Passing trade scans your window poster, browses the menu, and orders for collection — before they've even walked in.

📣

On social media

Share your ordering link on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. Anyone who sees your post can open your menu and order for collection.

🥡

On packaging

Add your QR code to bags, boxes and napkins. Customers who enjoyed last night's takeaway scan and reorder without searching for you.

What makes a QR ordering system actually work in a busy venue

A QR code that opens a PDF menu is not a QR ordering system. That's just a fancy leaflet. A real QR ordering system lets customers browse, customise, pay, and track their order — all from the scan — and lands each order in your kitchen with the table number attached.

The other thing that matters mid-service: speed. If the menu takes 8 seconds to load, most people will give up and flag down a member of staff instead. TakingYourOrder menus load in under a second on a typical mobile connection — we optimise aggressively for mobile data.

QR code ordering — questions we get asked

Does QR code ordering require customers to download an app?

+

No app, no account, no friction. Customers point their phone camera at the code on their table and the menu opens in their browser. It works on every smartphone — iOS 11+, Android 8+, and any modern mobile browser.

How much does a QR code ordering system cost in the UK?

+

Setting up TakingYourOrder is free. You pay 2% per transaction on the PAYG plan — so on a 100-order Saturday at £15 average, you pay £30. A typical SaaS QR ordering platform charges £79–129/month whether you're busy or not. And if your venue is busy every service, our flat monthly plans remove the per-transaction fee entirely.

What happens after a customer scans the QR code?

+

They see your full branded menu — photos, prices, categories, extras. They add items, choose customisations, and pay by card or PayPal. Your kitchen display shows the order within seconds, tagged with the table number. For collection orders, the customer gets a notification when it's ready.

Can I put a QR code on individual items rather than a general menu?

+

Yes. TakingYourOrder generates print menus with a separate QR code on every item. Scan the code next to the flat white and it goes into the basket as a flat white. Massively reduces ordering time at busy services.

Do customers need to be on my WiFi?

+

No — any data connection works. The menu is lightweight enough to load on a weak signal, and your kitchen display runs on any connection too. If you have customer WiFi, that works as well.

Can I still take orders at the bar or counter alongside QR orders?

+

Yes. You can take orders at the bar, counter or phone and add them to your kitchen board manually at any time. Many venues run both in parallel until they feel confident letting QR take the lead.

What if someone doesn't have a smartphone?

+

You can always take their order in person and enter it on your kitchen board manually. QR ordering is an option for customers, not a requirement — older or less tech-comfortable customers are never left out.
